5.0 out of 5 stars Everything You Should Need in a Photo Frame, and Then Some, November 22, 2010

(VINE VOICE) (TOP 1000 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Sony DPF-D810 8-Inch SVGA LCD (4:3) Digital Photo Frame (Black) (Electronics)
The main reason I decided to buy a digital photo frame is because printing out photos from my Sony DSC-H5 on an Epson PictureMate to share with the family got pretty tiresome. Sure, the prints looked good, but printing them took a long time, they cost about 35 cents apiece and some of the older relatives couldn’t see them very well. I figured a digital photo frame would improve the whole process. My requirements were simple: the frame must have very high resolution, be small and lightweight (for packing in a carry-on suitcase), and accept images via a Memory Stick and also via a standard USB interface (which many, I found, do not).

The Sony DPF-D810 meets all of my requirements with flying colors. The 800-by-600-pixel 8-inch-diagonal display is clear, crisp, bright and saturated. Photos display instantly, either singly, until you manually advance them, or in a slideshow with your choice of 10 time intervals from three seconds to 24 hours and with your choice of six… Read more

I’m the one in the family…and extended family…that does the shopping for electronics/digital products. You know me, many of you have that guy in your own families or group of friends.
When I decided to buy digital frames for my parents and my wife for this Christmas, I did a lot of research and looked at a lot of digital frames. I read a lot of reviews as well and compared many of the features available. Here’s what I liked about the Sony DPF-D810 8-inch SVGA Frame:

Simply to use, yet has advanced features that you don’t get in this price range
Sturdy, well thought-out design (even the remote is sturdy…many have flimsy remotes that are useless)
4:3 format…standard photo size, so it doesn’t undesirably crop your precious photos
Allows the use of all standard memory cards to include USB thumb drives -great for anyone that might be technically challenged
It’s not a knock-off brand and was obviously well tested..I didn’t have to wonder… Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Almost Perfect, December 16, 2010

Excellent picture, good desktop size. Great that it has multiple ways of getting data. You can also superimpose a clock over your picture which is neat, but not always practical.
The only thing I could think of that it cannot do is that I’d like to be able to set the speed at which the slideshow advances. Apparently you can only show one slide, or have a pre-determined speed slideshow. Great for sharing and viewing, but I’d like to see it change maybe every half hour for my desk. Still, it’s otherwise perfect. Well worth the money. Remote is more handy than you would think.
I don’t know why you would want the Sony logo to show, but it’s nice they allow you to turn that off.

Nice frame but it is not useable out of the box
By Anonymous – Jan 17, 2011 – Full review provided by Logo for Best Buy Best Buy
Pros: Looks nice on an end table or desk, pictures are crisp and nice options for displaying pictures.
Cons: Needed to buy a mini B-Type USB cable (not included in box) and still was unable to copy 80M of files onto the frame.
I bought this frame to load with pictures and send to my mother-in-law. I opened the box and found out immediately that I needed to have a mini B-type USB cable (not included in the box) in order to copy pictures from my pc to the frame. There is no indication on the box that an extra cable would be needed.
After aquiring a cable I then sat down to move the picture files to the frame. I had already prepared my pc by creating a separate folder of image files and re-sizing them due to the low capacity internal memory of the Sony frame (128M). The box states 150 files (which would be roughly 854K each). That process in itself was time consuming as most digital camera’s folks use >2009 are 2M – 4M in size so be prepared to do some work.
The folder I created had 73 files, each ~ 1M, for a total file size of ~80M. that should have easily fit on the frame. But when I attempted to copy the folder over I was faced with an error message telling me that I needed to remove ~21M from the folder. That left me with three options to get pictures on the frame: 1) go back and resize all files once again, to an estimate of 500K, 2) load only half of the pictures I wanted to have on the frame when I send it or 3) go out and by some external memory.
I attempted to call the Sony support line, at 8:00 PM EST, the message on the 800 number informed me it was after hours and I would need to call an extended support (239-768-7602) toll line for support. I went to Sony’s web site but could not locate any help files to answer my question about the problem I was having loading 80M onto the frame that is rated at 128M.
I’m going to opt for the fourth option, which is to return the frame and look for one that is more user friendly and offers better support. « less… more »

Great Photo Frame
By Bill – Feb 7, 2011 – B&H Photo, Video & Pro Audio
It Frame is not cheap, but you get what you pay for. It has Great resolution, and much easier to use than previous Sony Digital Frames. I do not know how this product could be improved.

Wish I didn’t wait so long!
By Grammy – Feb 1, 2011 – B&H Photo, Video & Pro Audio
We have so many pictures that are tucked away that nobody ever looks at, and now it is a pleasure to display them – not only for company, but to enjoy ourselves. This digital photo frame was so easy to use, no problems. Since this is my 1st frame, I went with the 8, but I now I’m thinking the 10 Frame might be better.

FABULOUS FRAME! LOVE IT!
By KCR’s Mom – Jan 17, 2011 – B&H Photo, Video & Pro Audio
It’s simply a terrific frame. I did a lot of research, and so far it has lived up to expectations – a beautiful frame at a reasonable price. I had a cheaper brand, and it simply quit working. Finally replaced it with the Sony, and I am very happy. It’s in our foyer so it’s one of the first things guests see, and everyone comments on how nice it is. Pictures are clear, and the different transitions in the slideshow format are fun. Can’t wait to try the video and audio options. Hope it lasts for a long, long time!

Satisfied with Sony DPF-D810
By Al – Jan 7, 2011 – B&H Photo, Video & Pro Audio
After reviewing many digital picture frames, I choose the Sony DPF-D810 because of it’s resolution, re-sizing of the image and ease of use. All my expectations were met and the overall product exceeded my expectations. I was looking for a DPF that would store images internally, easy to setup. Remote works great and all the screens were self explanatory. Many options for viewing the slide-show, which includes showing a calendar and or clock. Frame can be programmed to turn on / off at a specific time. The Sony logo can be turned off. Images loaded via USB flash or SD card worked fine. Resizing, not cropping is an important feature. Frame might be more expensive, but is quality and set-ups easily with remote. Only improvement suggestion would be a way to attach the remote to the frame. Considering buying more as gifts.

4.5 Stars: Lovely little frame!
By New Mom with Lots of Photos – Jan 4, 2011 – B&H Photo, Video & Pro Audio
I have now bought two of these for grandparents/great- grandparents to showcase pictures of their new grandson. It is a perfect gift! Almost. Here are a few of the cons that knocked it down to a 4.5 star rating: CONS: 1. The angle of viewing is pretty limited. You pretty much have to be looking straight at the device to get a clear picture. 2. It throws off a lot of light. In other words, it will not blend into the background of a room. Like a TV, your eyes will be drawn to it. This is not a huge con but for those thinking it will blend seamlessly with their vintage decor like a regular frame, it will not. 3. It does not come with an easy way to connect directly to your computer. We purchased a $10 USB stick which helped with the transfer. On a similar note, it would also be nice to be able to hook it directly to a TV so you could launch a slideshow for the family. Pie in the sky I know, but a girl can dream. 4. THIS IS A USER ISSUE! You really have to commit to one format (portrait or landscape) for all your photos and stick with it. If you have a mix of the two, whatever way the frame is set-up will be the default setting. In other words, if your frame is standing on its short end, any landscape photos will come up on the screen at a fraction of their size. Just keep this in mind when choosing pictures for the frame (and when shooting pics to put on the frame). 5. No Ken Burns effect. I’m not saying I love this, or would even use it, but why not just add it to the functionality for those that do? 6. It would be nice to not have to plug it in all the time as it limits the areas of the home/office that you can display the frame. An option to charge it or use batteries would be nice. PROS 1. Clear, bright, picture. 2. Great control over photo slideshow (timing, auto turn off, order). 3. Easy to set-up. 4. Sleek and elegant look. 5. Great size. 6. Decent price when you think about all of the photos you do not have to print, frame and mat! « less… more »

Nice Display, BUT . . .
By Andy – Jan 3, 2011 – B&H Photo, Video & Pro Audio
This is a nice digital photo frame, but it does not appear to have any feature that saves settings once unplugged or turned off! It is frustrating to reset the slide show settings each and every time the unit is turned on.

Good frame
By Ave – Jan 2, 2011 – B&H Photo, Video & Pro Audio
Good photo frame, sharp image. Interface is a little clumsy to operate in the frame itself but easier with the remote control that comes with it. Additional SD memory card recommended.

Great digital photo frame!
By NitroTurbo – Jan 1, 2011 – B&H Photo, Video & Pro Audio
I received one of these as a gift and loved it so much that I turned around and bought one for my parents and it gave it to them over the holidays. They loved it! It’s so easy to use, and the photos look wonderful. My sister and her husband were so impressed, that they plan on buying one. The internal memory on the frame is pretty small, but we just either use flash drives or camera memory cards. These have a lot more memory and then we don’t even need to hook the frame up to the computer, you just plug in the drive or card and you’re done! I would highly recommend this frame and want to stress how user friendly it is. I know a lot of people that are not very tech savvy, and I would feel comfortable suggesting this frame to any one of them!
